Choosing the right sounds in Trance Music production

Trance music is a genre that is known for its energetic beats, uplifting melodies, and euphoric soundscapes. It’s a genre that has been around for decades and continues to evolve with new technology and production techniques. One of the key elements in creating a successful trance track is choosing the right sounds. In this article, we’ll explore the importance of sound selection in trance music production and provide tips on how to choose the best sounds for your tracks.

Why Sound Selection is Crucial in Trance Music Production

Choosing the right sounds is important in Trance music.

Trance music is all about creating a specific atmosphere and taking the listener on a journey. Choosing the right sounds can transport the listener to a different world and evoke emotions that are unique to the genre. Whether it’s a dreamy pad, a pulsating bassline, or a soaring lead, each sound plays a crucial role in creating the overall atmosphere of a trance track. Trance music is a popular genre with a large and dedicated fan base. With so many producers creating trance tracks, it’s important to stand out from the crowd. One way to do this is by choosing unique and interesting sounds that will catch the listener’s attention. This can help your tracks stand out and make a lasting impression on your audience. Trance music is known for its high energy and emotional impact. The right sounds can enhance these elements and take a track to the next level. For example, a powerful lead sound can add intensity and emotion to a breakdown, while a driving bassline can keep the energy high throughout the track. By carefully selecting sounds that complement each other, you can create a track that is both energetic and emotional.

Tips for Choosing the Right Sounds in Trance Music Production

Choosing the right sounds in Trance music tips and pointers.

Before you start selecting sounds for your track, it’s important to understand the role of each sound in a trance track. This will help you choose sounds that work well together and create a cohesive track. Here are some common roles that sounds play in trance music:

  • Bassline: The bassline is the foundation of a trance track and provides the low-end energy and drive.
  • Lead: The lead sound is usually the main melodic element in a track and is responsible for creating the emotional impact.
  • Pads: Pads are used to create atmosphere and add depth to a track.
  • Arpeggios: Arpeggios are short, repeating patterns that add movement and energy to a track.
  • Effects: Effects such as risers, impacts, and sweeps are used to add tension and excitement to a track.

By understanding the role of each sound, you can choose sounds that work well together and create a balanced and dynamic track.

Synthesizers are a staple in trance music production, and there are countless options available. When choosing synth sounds, it’s important to experiment with different presets and parameters to find the perfect sound for your track. Don’t be afraid to tweak knobs and try out different effects to create a unique sound that fits your track.

Use Layering to Create Depth and Texture. Layering is a common technique used in trance music production to create depth and texture in a track. This involves layering multiple sounds on top of each other to create a more complex and interesting sound. For example, you could layer a saw wave with a square wave to create a fuller and more dynamic lead sound. Experiment with different combinations of sounds to find the perfect blend for your track.Consider Sound Design and Audio Production Techniques. In addition to using presets and samples, sound design and audio production techniques can also play a crucial role in creating the right sounds for your track. For example, using sidechain compression can help create a pumping effect on a bassline, while EQ and reverb can add depth and clarity to a lead sound. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different techniques to create unique and interesting sounds for your tracks. Use Reference Tracks for Inspiration. When choosing sounds for your trance tracks, it can be helpful to listen to reference tracks from your favorite artists. This can give you an idea of the types of sounds that work well in trance music and provide inspiration for your own tracks. Pay attention to the sounds used in different sections of the track, such as the breakdown, build-up, and drop, and use this as a guide for choosing sounds for your own tracks.

SUPER RARE OPPORTUNITY TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE

Feeling stuck and burnt out?

Tired of the same “dream” labels if of your genre rejecting your tracks?

DONT WORRY! There is a solution to this problem that you’ve most likely been overlooking.

Most of my students (spoiler alert) are aspiring trance producers.

And while most, after hard work and dedication are able to achieve professional sounding trance tracks.

UNFORTUNATELY, today’s music industry is extremely saturated.

Making quality, professional tracks, is just simply not enough anymore for up and comers.

Your sound needs to have a certain magical aspect to it.

It needs to be something special.

And sometimes that can be extremely hard to do in certain genres, depending on the person.

For example, one of my long-term students, originally came to me as a trance producer. They new their skills weren’t quite there yet and needed help getting to a professional level.

After months and months of  private lessons, hard work and dedication, their tracks were getting really good. They were releasing on labels like Suanda and Abora, their tracks were being aired on dutch fm radio stations etc.

However, despite all that, the major trance labels still continued rejecting their tracks. Because he was a newer name, his tracks really needed to stand out. They needed to be something special.

Long story short, my student ended up switching to techno. This sparked a massive creative fire in him and he is achieving massive success now in the new genre.

Not only are his tracks quality but they stand, have a unique sound and truly are special pieces of art.

Sometimes a fresh start in a fresh new style to you like techno can be a life-changing decision.

You can be like my student and try producing in a new genre like techno and finally get somewhere with your music.

OR

You can keep doing the same thing, stick to your usual genre and never get anywhere.

The choice is yours.
