You know what kills creative flow faster than anything? Reaching for the mouse. I've been producing trance for 25+ years, and the single biggest productivity hack I've learned is: stop touching the trackpad.
Keyboard shortcuts aren't just time-savers — they're flow-savers. They keep your hands on the keys, your eyes on the arrangement, and your ideas moving without friction.
1. Cmd+Shift+M — New MIDI Track

The amount of times per session I need a new MIDI track is insane. Instead of clicking menus, one keystroke and boom — fresh MIDI track. In a typical 8-minute trance track, that's 15-20 tracks saved.
2. Cmd+L — Loop Selection

This one changed how I write melodies and basslines. Highlight any section, hit Cmd+L, and Ableton loops it. Perfect for when you want to repeat a 2-bar drum fill while sketching a lead over it.

3. Cmd+D — Duplicate

Select a clip, a track, or a whole section — Cmd+D copies it right next to the original. I use this constantly when building arrangements. Copy an 8-bar section, tweak it slightly, and you've got 16 bars of variation.
4. Tab — Switch Views
Toggle between Session View and Arrangement View with one key. I use Session View for jamming out ideas, then Tab into Arrangement to structure the track. No clicking, pure flow.
5. Cmd+E — Split Clip

Place the cursor where you want to cut, hit Cmd+E. Done. I use this to chop up audio, split MIDI regions, and create variation points in my arrangement. I go much deeper into workflow in my How To Make Trance Like A Pro course.
