Master Vital Synth: Build 8+ Sounds From Scratch Using Only the FREE Version

ReOrder & MYR walk you through building basslines, plucks, pads, hi-hats, sweeps, and experimental FX sounds — step by step inside Vital.

Sound Familiar?

You downloaded Vital because everyone says it’s an amazing free synth — but when you open it up, you’re staring at oscillators, wavetables, and modulation options with no idea where to start. Every preset you scroll through sounds cool, but you have no clue how to build your own sounds from an initialized patch.

Maybe you’ve heard people say Vital sounds “too digital” or “non-analog” and you’re wondering if it’s even worth learning. You want to make trance basslines, lush pads, tight plucks, and creative FX — but the gap between the init preset and a finished, polished sound feels massive.

You’ve watched generic YouTube tutorials that show you one sound and leave you lost when you try to apply those techniques to something else. What you really need is to watch experienced producers build multiple sounds from zero, explaining every decision along the way.

The truth is: Vital’s free version has everything you need to create professional-sounding patches — you just need someone to show you how all the pieces connect.

What Is the Vital Masterclass?

This is a ~1 hour live masterclass taught by ReOrder and MYR — two professional trance producers who built an entire 135+ preset sample pack for Vital. They know this synth inside out, and in this session they break down exactly how they craft sounds from an initialized preset to a finished, mix-ready patch.

You’ll watch ReOrder and MYR alternate building 8 different sounds in real time: a futuristic trance bassline, a closed hi-hat/shaker, a lush pad stab, a tight pluck, a down sweep FX, and an experimental “DJ tool” sound — all inside Vital’s free version. Every oscillator choice, filter setting, envelope shape, LFO assignment, and effects chain decision is explained as they go.

This isn’t a “here’s a preset, tweak this knob” tutorial. ReOrder and MYR start from the init patch every single time and build up, showing you the thinking process behind each sound. They share real production tricks — like using the random function to make digital oscillators sound analog, using phase randomization for natural-sounding unison, and creating side-chain pumping effects entirely within Vital.

By the end of this masterclass, you’ll understand Vital’s signal flow well enough to design your own original sounds from scratch — basslines, pads, plucks, percussive elements, sweeps, and experimental textures.

What’s Inside

🎹 Vital Interface & Core Concepts

MYR kicks off with a quick walkthrough of Vital’s interface — oscillators, filters, envelopes, LFOs, effects section, and the modulation matrix. You’ll learn the drag-and-drop modulation system, how to switch filter modes (analog, digital, ladder), the difference between trigger and sync modes on LFOs, and how to navigate the advanced unison settings (table spread, distortion spread, spectral spread).

🎵 Trance Bassline From Scratch

ReOrder builds a futuristic trance bassline inspired by artists like Anima — using two oscillators (saw + custom blend shape) plus a sub sine wave on direct out. Covers phase control for consistent transients, envelope-to-filter cutoff modulation, 24dB low-pass filtering, stereo delay (1/8 dotted), LFO-to-harmonic-stretch for stereo movement, multiband compression within Vital, and side-chaining to the kick using FL Studio’s compressor.

🎚️ Percussive Sound Design: Shaker/Closed Hat

MYR creates a hi-hat/shaker using only Vital’s noise oscillator — no traditional oscillators needed. You’ll learn LFO-driven volume shaping for rhythmic patterns (16th notes), band-pass filtering with the 12dB analog filter, random panning with sample & hold for stereo spread, plus multiband compression, EQ sculpting, ping-pong delay, reverb, and soft-clip saturation — all in Vital’s built-in FX chain.

🎵 Lush Pad Stab & Tight Pluck

ReOrder builds a wide, lush pad stab using 16-voice unison with classic blend wavetables, digital low-pass filter modulated by envelope 2, long reverb with EQ sculpting, and careful low-end management. Then MYR creates a tight pluck sound using dual saw oscillators with different voice counts (3 and 8), 24dB analog low-pass filter, envelope-controlled pluck decay, soft-clip distortion for fattening, compression for transient control, and ping-pong delay with EQ.

🔧 Down Sweep FX & Side-Chain Simulation

MYR builds a down sweep effect using the noise oscillator with LFO-controlled volume and band-pass filter cutoff. Goes deep into creating a side-chain pumping effect entirely within Vital using a second LFO, plus a gated LFO effect using a square wave at 16th notes for rhythmic chopping — with stereo LFO mode for extra width. Covers ping-pong delay and reverb processing for the final sound.

💡 Experimental “DJ Tool” Sound & Advanced Modulation

ReOrder shows how to create an experimental, evolving sound using heavy modulation — LFOs on filter cutoff with Perlin noise randomization, sample & hold for tempo changes, resonance modulation with ramp shapes, downsample distortion, up to 8 LFOs assigned simultaneously, stereo LFO mode on advanced unison parameters (table spread, spectral spread), glide/portamento, and the modulation matrix for managing complex patches. Includes a great explanation of what sample & hold actually does (with an R2-D2 reference from MYR).

How It Works

1

Download Vital (Free) – Grab the free version of Vital from vital.audio. That’s all you need — every sound in this masterclass is built using the free version.
2

Watch & Follow Along – Open Vital in your DAW and follow ReOrder and MYR as they build each sound from an initialized preset. Pause, rewind, and recreate each patch at your own pace.
3

Understand the “Why” – Don’t just copy settings. Learn why each oscillator, filter, envelope, and LFO choice was made — so you can apply the same thinking to any sound you want to create.
4

Build Your Own Sounds – Take the techniques and start designing original patches. Experiment with different wavetables, modulation routings, and FX chains to develop your own signature sound.

By the end of this masterclass, you’ll be able to open Vital, initialize a preset, and confidently build basslines, pads, plucks, percussion, sweeps, and experimental textures from scratch.

Plugins & Tools Used

Vital (Free Version)
FL Studio (DAW)
FL Studio Compressor (side-chain)

The project is demonstrated in FL Studio, but all sound design techniques are done inside Vital and apply regardless of your DAW.

Who This Is For

✓ Producers who downloaded Vital but don’t know how to build sounds from scratch beyond scrolling presets

✓ Trance, progressive, and electronic music producers who want to design their own basslines, pads, plucks, and FX

✓ Producers on a budget who want to get professional results from a free synthesizer

✓ Anyone who already knows Serum or other wavetable synths and wants to learn Vital’s workflow and unique features (random function, stereo LFOs, modulation matrix)

📋 Requirements

Required: Vital synthesizer (the free version is enough), any DAW (FL Studio is used in the demo but not required), basic understanding of what oscillators, filters, and envelopes are

Recommended: Some experience making electronic music — this isn’t a “what is a synthesizer” course, it jumps into practical sound design from the start
